    Greetings from Australia.
The whole country seems to have run out of and/or ceased to manufacture the S8 50 foot film cannister. My local lab in Melbourne has resorted to yanking the central core out of the coaxial cartridge and handing back the processsed stock on what amounts to a 50 core of S8 and the spigots from these things are NOT HOLLOW.
This is a terrible and discomforting development since I run a national (Australian) film event and the bulk of the entries are indeed Super 8. The processing lab and myself are way past the insanity point and are seriously considering a lingering stay at a sanitorium ... 50 FOOT CORES OF S8 FOR GOODNESS SAKE ... help!I work off old upright S8 editing gear and have managed to jerry rig the outfit so it works ... but ever so slowly. Does anyone out there have/know of/manufacture these 50 foot reels?
Apologies for the rant but this has become something of a national crisis!
    Cheers.

Hey Iain I'm in Brisbane and have about 190 of them I've been wondering what to do with! - seriously - this is the plastic black rolls you get back from Kodak right? - We've shot about 194 rolls for In My Image and it's been transferred onto 400 foot reels for telcine -- I might keep some in case I need them (though I'm not sure why I might but it's probably a good idea to) but email me and we'll talk about the rest

I must say this is a Kodak moment!

    Is Kodak listening?

Suggestion: Contact Film and Video Transfer Houses such as Film and Video Transfers in Northridge California.

They may do it simply for the postage costs.

Most Transfer houses assemble all of the 50 foot reels onto much bigger reels, and frankly, for all I know, they could be throwing away the 50 foot reels because they return the films on the bigger reels to their customers!

Pro 8mm, Yale Labs...any Super-8 film transfer company in the world may be able to help you out.

It's great to see this board be a big help....good going Scot!

Naw, I'm pretty sure Pro 8mm would sell these things for $10.00 each, put a Pro8mm sticker over any Kodak markings there may be, and rename them "Pro8 custom S8 Cores" or something like that, and if you asked why they look exactly like the Kodak ones, they would say they completely redesigned the product, it's totally different, and far superior!
